Membership Benefits

Te Rōpū Kaiwhiriwhiri o Aotearoa NZAC has nearly 50 years of experience in supporting Counsellors and is the largest professional counselling association in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Rōpū Kaiwhiriwhiri o Aotearoa NZAC is recognised by government and NGO’s as a professional counselling association.

We work on our members' behalf to develop and uphold professional and ethical standards.

We are passionate about championing the profession, advocating the role, relevance and value of counselling to the public, employers and policy makers and to make the case for increased investment in counselling.

We work to raise the credibility of, and confidence in, counselling, ensuring they are recognised for their competence and skills.

Members can apply for Te Whatu Ora accreditation so they can apply for positions with Te Whatu Ora.

Most agencies require their counsellors to be registered, being registered with Te Rōpū Kaiwhiriwhiri o Aotearoa (NZAC) means you can work as a Counsellor in Aotearoa.

We are committed to developing the highest standards of proficiency and ethical practice within the counselling profession. Members have an Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) which is endorsed by their Supervisor and requires Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

NZAC membership demonstrates a commitment to ethical and professional practice using the Code of Ethics , and we work to ensure this is understood and valued by clients, employers and the public.

Our Complaints Process protects both members in their practice and their clients from harm.

We provide networking and Professional Development opportunities with other members, both online and in person through Branches, to share best practice and exchange different professional insights at conferences, CPD webinars and Facebook.

NZAC continually encourages research that demonstrates the effectiveness of counselling, enabling us to make persuasive arguments to policy makers for choice, availability and accessibility of counselling therapies.

Our membership and registration process shows that our members have met high standards of practice, have robust ethics and are committed to ongoing professional development.

Our publications, Te Korowai Awhina and the Journal, provide the latest professional news and thinking written by practitioners for practitioners.

We know that counselling changes lives, and we work hard to promote the profession, protect its reputation and create opportunities for our members.
